October is Breast Cancer awareness month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month occurs annually in October, providing an opportunity to reflect on prevention, treatment options and trends.

Did you know that breast cancer is the most common type of non-skin cancer in women in the United States? It is also the second leading cause of cancer death in American women.

While there is no known cure for breast cancer, many things can be done to reduce your risk of developing the disease and improve your chances of survival if you are diagnosed.

  • Get regular mammograms and clinical breast exams.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Eat a healthy diet.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Avoid smoking.
  • Talk to your provider about your risk factors for breast cancer.
