HCAHPS star rating

HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) star ratings are derived from the 10 publicly reported HCAHPS measures. These questions are related to:

  • Communications between doctors and nurses
  • Responsiveness
  • Medications
  • Discharge information
  • Care transitions
  • Cleanliness and quietness of the healthcare system
  • Rating and recommendations of the hospital

Overall hospital quality star rating

The Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating is determined by a hospital’s patient experience surveys, readmission rates, safety measures, publicly reported quality data, and measures of timeliness and effectiveness of care.
