COVID-19 Vaccine Alert

May 5, 2021  /   Coronavirus, Press Releases  /   1-minute read

Attention Kanabec and Pine County Residents and Welia Health Patients

Based on the Minnesota Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control recommendations, Welia Health will pause administration of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine effective immediately.

Data is currently being reviewed involving the six reported cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is meeting today to review these cases and assess the potential significance. In addition, the US Food and Drug Administration will investigate and conduct its own analysis.

While these incidents are rare, MDH advises those Minnesotans who have received the J&J vaccine and who develop the following symptoms within three weeks of vaccination to contact their healthcare provider:

• Severe headache
• Abdominal pain
• Leg pain
• Shortness of breath

If you have an appointment to receive the J&J shot on Thursday, April 15, a representative from Kanabec Public Health or Welia Health will call you about next steps.
